Introduction: Hyperactive gag reflex can make dental treatment procedures intolerable for some patients; so, it is highly important
for the dentist to control it. Acupuncture is a technique used to control this phenomenon. In this study, the effects of two acupoints,
anti-gagging and P6, on the gag r eflex control were analyzed. Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial study, a total number of 100
healthy people were classified into four groups. Acupuncture and psuedo-acupuncture procedures were performed on anti-gagging
and P6 points based on the group. Before and after acupuncture or pseudo-acupuncture, gag reflex severity was measured via
stimulation of the soft palate, tonsils, and root of the tongue. Obtained data was analyzed using statistical package of social sciences
(SPSS) 22 statistical software. Results: Acupuncture reduced gag reflex at both points, but psuedo-acupuncture did not reduce the
gag reflex. Moreover, no significant difference was observed between acupuncture on P6 and anti-gagging points. Conclusion:
Acupuncture on anti-gagging and P6 points can be effective in controlling the gag reflex during routine dental procedures.

Purpose: Considering the little evidence around acellular dermal
graft application in secondary lip reshaping, this study is aimed to
quantitatively examine the effect of acellular dermal graft in
combination with Z-plasty technique in secondary defects of cleft
lip.
Methods: In this clinical investigation, patients with secondary
unilateral cleft lip deformity were selected. Standard photographs
were prepared for each patient. Subsequent to scar revision,
submucosal tunneling and Z-plasty, implantable human acellular
dermal graft was placed and fixed in submucosal pocket.
Quantitative parameters included angle of symmetry , dimension
of symmetry (DS), defect height (DH), parallel lines, and lip
thickness were measured presurgically and 1 year after
treatment. Pre and post-operative pictures were compared and
the changes were documented according to the criteria. P value
less than 0.05 were considered as significant.
Results: Eighteen patients were included in this study. The difference
of ‘‘DS’’ between normal side and cleft side was 3.11.5mm
presurgically and 1.11.8mm postsurgically. The change was
significant (P value<0.05). The difference between pretreatment
and posttreatment measures of ‘‘DS’’, ‘‘DH’’, and ‘‘Lip Thickness’’
were 2.754.55, 3.434.82, and 2.663.04mm, respectively. The
results were significant (P value<0.05).

Background: Frequency of migraine changes at different times of a woman’s reproductive cycle because
of fluctuation of estrogen levels. Breast cancer has also a link with hormonal changes. Given this fact that
both migraine and breast cancer are affected by estrogen, the prevalence of migraine may be different in
breast cancer patients compared to the normal population.
Materials and Methods: In this case–control study, two groups of women with and without breast cancer
were compared regarding the prevalence of migraine. Each group consisted of 400 women. The diagnosis
of different types of headache was made based on The International Headache Society (IHS) guidelines. Type
of headache, type and receptor status of breast cancer, as well as history of taking hormonal medications
was recorded. Independent t‑test and Chi‑square tests were used for data analysis.
Results: Relative frequency of migraine headache in the normal woman was 38% compared to 19% in the
breast cancer group (P < 0.0001). Tension headache was also significantly more prevalent in the normal group
(P < 0.001). The frequency of migraine was significantly lower in estrogen receptor (ER)+/progesterone
receptor (PR)− women compared to ER−/PR+ (26 and 43 women, respectively; P = 0.04); however, this
difference was not significant for tension headache (P = 0.68).
Conclusion: This study confirmed the lower frequency of migraine, as well as tension headache, in breast
cancer sufferers. This could be contributed to several non‑hormonal factors, such as a history of long term
use of nonsteroidal anti‑inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and hormonal factors, although only migraine showed
a strong link with hormone status.

ntroduction: Removing wisdom tooth is one of the most damaging facial surgeries encountered. Dexamethasone is a complex of drugs used that has many side effects. On the other hand, ginger has anti-inflammatory properties without side effects. Therefore, this study compared anti-inflammatory properties of two soft tissue injections of dexamethasone sodium phosphate 1/6 mg, using topical mucobioadhesive containing ginger extract.
Method: 45 healthy patients were selected without any systemic diseases with double-sided wisdom teeth that they intended to have removed. Two-way teeth of the patients were removed by a similar procedure by maxillofacial surgeon. On one side of 2 cm² of mucobioadhesive containing ginger extract (20%) and on the other side, dexamethasone phosphate 1/6 mg was used. The maximal oral opening rate was measured by the researcher before surgery and 24 and 72 hours after surgery to evaluate Trismus.
Results: 45 patients with an average age of 28 years participated in this study. During the measurements, the mean of maximum mouth opening before teeth removal was 47/48 mm. At the side using the mucobioadhesive containing ginger extract (20%) this value after 24 hours was 39/57 and after 72 hours was 40 mm. At the side using dexamethasone phosphate 1/6 mg this value after 24 hours was 46/42 and after 72 hours was 44/55 mm.
Conclusion: Based on the statistical data obtained from this study, it seems that topical administration of tissue glue containing ginger extract (20%) and soft tissue injection of dexamethasone sodium phosphate (1/6 mg) after surgery both reduced trismus after surgery …

Aim: This study is aimed to investigate the success rate and clinical outcome of placed implants in
reconstructed alveolar ridges using iliac cortico-cancellus bone graft compared to normal nonaugmented
alveolar ridge.
Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial study, 30 patients who were selected and assigned in
case and control groups. The case group included patients with severe alveolar bone loss, who
needed bone grafting. The control group included patients with sufficient alveolar ridge and noneed for bone grafting. The prosthesis was placed on implants after 3 to 8 months. Plaque index,
bleeding, pocket depth, mobility, pain, pus secretion and bone loss were evaluated after 24 month.
Data were analyzed by SPSS 13. P-value less than 0.05 was considered as significant.
Results: Out of 30 patients, two were excluded due to their requirements. Totally 97 implants were
placed in patients, which included 52 implants in control group and 45 implants in case group. All
of the implants were successfully osseointegrated and loaded. There was no significant difference
between the success of inserted implants between both groups (P=0.05). The mesial and distal
bone losses were significantly more in patients without iliac bone graft (P=0.05). There was no
statistically significant difference between measured outcomes including plaque, bleeding, pocket
depth, mobility, pain, and pus secretion (P=0.05).
Conclusion: Inserted implant in free non-vascularized iliac bone graft has high rate of success
comapred to non-augmented alveolar ridges and has shown to be a reliable method for
reconstruction of severe atrophic jaws
